honestly, i must be the only person on livejournal that thinks that it's worth keeping people on your friends list, even if you don't talk that much (or at all).
because even if you don't talk to them, they're still there, and there was a connection that prompted you to friend them in the first place, and if you cut them out of your social circle then there's always the chance you might miss out on something fantastic.
i guess i'm just old fashioned, and write and read on lj for the sake of reading about the lives of the people i know and care about, and not basing my friendships off of how often they comment.
that's why i don't understand friends cuts posts. sorry if that offends people that do them -- but that's why i won't post one myself. i keep people on my list for the sake of keeping up with their lives, and i'd rather not use comments as a barometer for whether or not people are keeping up with mine.
